new Moon Premier

Had so much fun at the Twilight Saga: New Moon pre-movie party. My best friend from way back came out from Denver with her sister Cathy. We had some wicked fun and laughed entirely too much! The movie was awesome and I left saying I need to see that again immediately!

"Bells, quick, into the Yellow Porsche, we must save Edward!"

Chillin' at Billy Blacks watching TV.

Me and my twin Alice say...this is going to be awesome!

Refinishing the Kitchen Table

Ohhh, the experience of refinishing a piece of furniture. I now have a new appreciation for my furniture in my house. I will post picts when the project is complete. I wonder if I ever will get the smell of stain out of my nose and house?!

Craftin' with m'girls

I have been keeping busy making stuff. I don't know what it is about this time of the year that makes me want to create things, but I get all crafty. The other day Laura spent forever helping me make images for tile necklaces (thanks a ton!) and then I got together with some friends and made necklaces for the upcoming New Moon movie. It was fun to laugh and be silly, sometimes I forget how to be me after mommying all the live long day!

New Moon

I am so excited for New Moon I can't even stand it! I even did a special pumpkin as an ode to New Moon. I tried some pretty advanced carving tecniques (I actually had no idea what I was doing, but we'd watched a pumpkin carving competition on food network and I was confident I could try some of their skills out too). I only came away with a minor cut on my hand. :)

Halloween Fun

Halloween is such a fun time to be a mom. I love watching my kids get so excited about cutting up pumpkins, dressing up as someone else, and getting candy from strangers.

Caden was Curious George this year, and Tate was a football player (what else). Actually, he was a football player all month long and is still being a football player daily, unless it is dirty, then he is "B'ron James" in a jersy that is much too big for him. I was Alice, of course, complete with a Yellow Porsche 911. I sewed the outfit and I have a huge new appreciation for dress shirts I buy at the store because I know how much work goes into them.

I also got to help with Caden's class party and feel like a "real mom" for a day (in contrast to a real mom that works and misses out on stuff like this usually). It was fun to see his costume parade through the school and play games with his class. He even sang a scary song with his class to round out the experience.

We bagged the mouse!

Last night as we were finishing dinner Mike went downstairs for something and came up proclaiming with "Rocky fists" pumping the air--I got 'im, I got 'im! After finding an emergency bar chewed into (through the Mylar wrap no less!) we got really serious about catching the little sucker. (I had just bought the bar for Tate's 72 hr kit) So, we set the bar on the floor in the cold storage and set a sticky trap and a regular trap. Well, he fell on the sticky trap.
Caden was quite disturbed by the whole thing though, because he is a lover of all animals, he was a little weepy last night. He was convinced it was Mickey Mouse, who had walked to his house to come see him. (Awww)
Hopefully he will not be scarred for life!

Cornbelly's Fun

We went to Cornbelly's on Laura's recommendation and it was the best fall attraction we've been to with kids. The jumping pillows were amazing, I want one in my backyard! As you can see we really enjoyed them! We also cheered for the little piggies, road a tractor train, peddle carts, went in a corn maze, had water pump duck races and climed and slid from a huge hay stack. We thuroughly wore the kids out and ourselves too. So thankful the weather was nice.

So, the mouse hunt is on again. Mike had a sighting and won't rest until the darn little fur ball is trapped. He is vigilant, you gotta give him that.

I went into Hot Topic the other day, yeah, I didn't quite fit in...but they have the merch for New Moon there. Anyway, exciting, they have all the action figures for the new movie, and all sorts of stuff. It was hard to leave empty handed, but I managed.

Starting potty trainig during UEA break. We will see how it goes. Hopefully it will take!

More Domestic Industry

Welp 90 lbs of flour later I have canned up 24 cans of flour. Check me out workin' that canner! (If you look closely, you can see Edward supervising the whole opperation from the bookshelf.)
Other than hording food, I am trying to figure out my Halloween costume. Can't quite decide if I am going to go for Alice playing baseball or New Moon Alice...oh, choices choices.

Wendover

So we had an adventure to Wendover, NV on Friday night to go see one of Mikes favorite comedians Frank Callendo. He does impressions George W., Madden, Charles Barkley...anyway he's funny and clean. Good times. Hate the smoke everywhere you go though.

Laughing & Biting

Loved The Office wedding last night. Mike and I had some good belly laughs. I love good physical comedy i.e. people falling down in one way or another. Kevin in his kleenex box shoes crashing into the candles, right up my alley!
On that note, was driving home the other day and saw a kid trying to do a skateboard trick as I was waiting to go through the round about. I could see where it was heading way before him. He was trying to flip it as he jumped but it went vertical and he landed on it right between his legs. I laughed so hard and banged on the steering wheel with my hand. I love a good injury, as long as it's not me! (I know I am sick, but I just can't help it!)
Also, how much am I loving Vampire Diaries! I just can't get enough of that show. I get all excited when it's Thursday. I think it could be because Stephen Salvatore reminds me so much of my other favorite vampire!

So excited!

My best friend from high school and her cute sister are coming out for the New Moon premier...could this get any more exciting? Mike said I'd better not get too crazy or he will be forced to "trank" me. LOL!

Unexpected visitor and other anecdotes

Last night I was sitting down to update 'the blog' and Mike yells, "Mel, I just saw something." He said he thought he saw a mouse run behind the tv...well, hours later after stacking everything up on top of tables, tipping over the couch, Mike standing by with a box thinking he will catch it when it comes running out (I quickly pointed out it doesn't usually work out for Tom, and I doubted it would for us.), a run down to Wal-Mart for traps, and Mike building "barricades" of boxes to the hallway (we couldn't sleep unprotected!) we finally got to bed way after 1 am. I am making fun of my cute overly sensitive about critters in his house hubby, but I really am gratefull for his grave concern for finding the mouse. It was just really funny to see him in action.
After we told the kids we have a mouse in the house and we set some traps to catch it so leave them alone they went on a mouse hunt for about an hour, it was great! We got to lay in bed a little longer and they were fully engaged in the hunt.
Later, Tate came in and said "Can' fin' my foo'ball." We told him it was in his bed. He said "No! Can' fin' it, Mouse ate it." I laughed so hard, the mouse ate it! I wonder how many more times I am going to hear that!
Now, after all of that excitement, I can't even remember what I was going to post last night!

Circus Trips and Twilight...of course

So, we went to the circus...you've got to take the kids atleast once in their lives. Tate was very impressed by the neigh neighs (horses) and Caden really liked the dogs, I really thought they were funny too. We went to the pre-show and even saw the elephants paint pictures, eat a loaf of bread whole, and play basketball--quite impressive. I didn't think Caden really liked it until he was on the phone with Grandma Kathy and he was saying how fun it was.

I am so excited, we are less than 2 months away from the New Moon premier(I was talking about it with my SIL today, thus the renewed enthusiasm). I have my tickets. I have watched the preview about a zillion times...
Almost overcome with too much excitement. Must go calm down.

Bowling party

So, my first destination birthday party...I could only handle 2 kids (weak sauce as Mike would say). But it was tricky making sure they didn't run all over and kill themselves runinng down those slickery lanes in those silly shoes! (Caden only did it once )
We had pizza and cupcakes and the kids even let Tate have a few turns. The bowling alley gave Caden an old pin and they drew a silly picture on it. Everyone signed it and we got out alive. The only casualty of the event was Halle's water snake, it popped in the car on the way home. I was alerted to said event when a wet splat hit my arm and I looked in the rear view mirror to see her drenched in yellow sparkly goo dripping from her hair and eyelashes...oops.
Caden also had his first kiss, Halle said, it was just a friend kiss not a married kiss (So cute). Sheesh, you blink and you miss a lot!

Happy Birthday Caden!

Caden woke up to the Pizzi tradition of balloons on his ceiling. I don't think he liked my early morning wake up call of "Happy Birthday to you".

He was more excited when he saw his birthday presents and donuts.

He got a Mickey Mouse pillow with a sleeping bag inside.

Here he is on his new scooter, doesn't he look like a big kid?!
We are going bowling on Saturday with a couple of his friends and eating pizza, he is really excited. I can't believe he is already 6, it really is true, they grow up fast!

Domesticated

Well, this week has been full of domestic activity. I canned up 21 bottles of peaches (what a big sticky mess) and got 4 jars of spaghetti sauce. It turned out pretty good, so here is the recipe. If you want to make it for just one batch, I tripled the original recipe and added some of my own stuff.

Homemade Tomato Sauce
Melody Pizzi
Yield: 4 Quart Jars

12 lbs. Tomatoes (20-30 dep on size) ¾ C beef or chicken broth or 1t bullion w/ ¾ C water
6T Olive Oil 3 bay leaves
4T Butter 4 whole stalks celery
2 Onions, finely chopped 3/4 can tomato paste
2 Green Bell Peppers 3 t Salt
2 Carrots, finely chopped 1 ½ t Pepper
12 Cloves garlic, minced 2 pinches red pepper flakes
8 t dried basil ¾ t thyme
¾ t Italian seasoning **2 handfuls grated parmesan cheese (add when eating)

1. Blanch and peel tomatoes. Squeeze out seeds and quarter if large. Reserve 4-5 tomatoes. Place remaining tomatoes in food processor and puree in batches. Dump into large bowl and set aside. Chop reserved tomatoes, keep separate from puree.
2. In large stock pot heat oil and butter over med heat and add onion, bell pepper, carrot, and garlic. Cook until softened (5 min). Pour in pureed tomatoes. Stir in chopped tomatoes, basil, Italian seasoning and broth. Add bay leaves and celery stalks in pot. Bring to a boil, let simmer covered for 2 hrs. Stir occasionally.
3. Stir in tomato paste and remaining seasonings. Let simmer uncovered 2 more hours or until it reaches your desired consistency. Stir occasionally.
4. Remove celery stalks and bay leaves. If you want a smoother sauce run through food processor again.
5. Jar it up and process for 20 min in water bath.
6. Let jars cool on rack until they “pop”.

Go BROWNS!

Mike is indoctrinating Tate early. Here we have the three point stance, he will stay like this until we yell "Hike!" Funny...for the first few times. I love this kid! The other night we were laying sod at Mike's parent's house and Tate was entertaining himself running routs in the yard waiting for us to yell hike. Then, he would "tackle" us and growl. Awesome, he will be fierce in a few years.

Tate is mesmerized by football, love the shoulder pads. He slept with them that night.

Caden tied his shoes today all by himself! Hooray for him!

Firsts

Here is Caden on his first day a school, a little nervous. But he had a great day. Can you guess which back pack is his?
Caden also learned to ride his bike a few days before school started, I told him to try and balance and just let his feet push off the ground but he decided to peddle and off he went! I was so proud I cheered him all the way to the end of the street. (Tate chased him with the stroller LOL.)
Tate found his inner Jedi. I discovered this picture in my camera, Caden must be the photographer, but it was too funny not to share. I laugh every time I see it!

We also visited the new high school in our area and went to the first home game. Go Westlake! Tate is now addicted to football. Sleeps with his football, wears football pads around the house, watches football with dad...Could Dad be more pleased?

Edward in NYC

Ahh, Bella was beautiful in that dress. Where is she anyway?
Pizza in Little Italy, Ha! Remember the time Bella dared me to eat a bite!
Edward visits the Statue of Liberty.

Okay, so we all know I am a serious Twihard. When we went to NYC I took my pocketsized Edward with me on my trip. Here are his adventures. Edward checks out the view of Time Square from our hotel room.

K, I am a total dork, and dont know why my post went in reverse order...not an experienced bloger, but you get the idea I hope!
